From my limited understanding, here's what I believe the Tournament of Bad is: A list of 64 bad things face off against each other NCAA March Madness style. People vote which is worse, winner moves on, etc. Here are the Cubs entries -
Ronnie Woo Woo, Cubs Playoff Baseball, Ron Santo's Hairpiece
Cubs Playoff Baseball was knocked of in the second round being extremely bad, but not as bad as "The View" - ok, no argument there. Ron Santo's Hairpiece looks to make its exit against the same program in this round. Ronnie Woo Woo is still holding strong in round 3, having beaten "Boneless, Skinless chicken breast" and "Sarah Palin" and while that would be a close matchup, yes Ronnie is worse. Woo Woo could take this thing all the way, needing to beat out only DePaul Basketball to advance to the final four.
Having said that, my personal favorites in this tournament -
"The Creepy Relationship Between Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus" (still alive)
"The misuse of their, there and they're" - although they could've included sooooo many other words (still alive)
"Joaquin Phoenix - The Rapper (eliminated in the first round)

What a shame
I realized recently that I snubbed Ronny. Once again, Ron Santo failed to get into the Hall of Fame, and I was completely remiss on reporting it, cuz it's a big deal. So allow me to update this entry with a backdated minute about Ron Santo and his quest for the hall.
HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!
You wanna make the hall? Stop making everyone listen to you day after day.
HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!
Ok...Sorry for the omission folks. There's a minute in the past...

Ron, Ron, Ron...
So it's the 5th inning. Z's dealin'. Pence is up. With two outs, Zambrano drills him in the back on a 2-2 count (I think). Which stunning analysis do you think Ronny offered? I'll make it multiple choice:
A. That was a slider that just got away from him. You hate to see that with a 2 strike count. Zambrano just needs to buckle down and focus on this next batter and not let this get in the way or break his concentration.
B. Aww, that's just too bad. With two outs, only a pick-off play or a caught stealing will allow Zambrano to potentially finish this game having faced the minimum number of batters for the game. You hate to see it, but it happens.
C. He didnt want to do that. Wow. Gosh...ooohhh...He didn't wanna do that right there. Ahh.
I'll give you one guess as long as it isn't A or B.
What a schmuck...
He doesn't deserve a minute and his 15 are up. Now he owes interest.

Cubs win, Brewers lose...
Good day. The bats woke up, especially "Little Babe Ruth" Mike Fontenot (Ok Ron, seriously - he has _8_ home runs...). Marquis pitched like crap, but hey - it's July. And I've said it before, and I'll say it again - With a rotation of Zambrano, Harden, Dempster, Lilly - who gives a crap who the fifth starter is?
The BIG series begins tomorrow. Biggest of the year? Maybe. Biggest of the year thus far? Definitely. Cubs ned to win two to leave town in first place. Gonna be rough. Lilly v. Sabathia - ew. Z v Sheets. Interesting.
The key for the next two games, and really all four, but especially against Sabathia and Sheets - Deep counts and a lot of them. Foul balls galore. Get those guys OUT of there, and then systematically dismantle their bullpen.
Here's hoping - and a minute for you...

Ron Santo
Ok, I've held off long enough. Now I sit here and listen and I can't stand it any more. Ron Santo needs to go. He never will, but he needs to. I'm too young to have seen him play, but by all accounts, and the numbers reflect it, he was a great third baseman, and he is a great Cubs fan, but he is a crappy, crappy broadcaster. He should never have been given airwaves to spew his "Gosh!" and "Aww" and "Uhhh" to a waiting audience. His is the monkey holding the tin can while Pat Hughes - arguably the best broadcaster in the business - plays the accordion. He's so cute and stupid, you have to drop coins in the cup.
Cory Provus takes over for Pat Hughes for one inning. I don't get this. Why do you remove your best asset, and put in - and no offense intended to Cory - an inferior product? He does a passable job, but can't you switch Santo out for an inning? Please?? Maybe your arguement is that Cory doesn't do analysis. That's ok. Neither does Ron.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I celebrate when the Cubs take a road trip and bring along Dave Otto. Now that's analysis. Not Steve Stone analysis, but at elast he doesn't groan and whine with every pitch that's thrown.
Ok, that's my minute, but beleive me...there will be many more on this topic.
